The Dream Recorder
I will soon be posting full documentation on my website.
The Dream Recorder is a system that allows inquisitive people to keep abstract, visual records of their dreams, or hypnograms. Hypnograms are computer generated three-dimensional drawings that have the potential to reveal emotional arousals provoked by the user’s brain during dreaming, constantly monitoring the user’s heart and hand sweat glands. This system is complemented by a nightmare alert device created to interrupt nightmares through the generation of sound. The Dream Recorder is a system especially created for those who want to keep tangible, legitimate records of their dreams, or for the curious who wish to know more about the life they live asleep. Beyond the particular functions that define the Dream Recorder as a specific application, this project is generically an emotion-responsive system. This means that it is able to respond to specific emotional states of its user in real time. Thus, the essence of the Dream Recorder does not rely completely on its capability to capture dreams in a digital form; it also relies on its capacity to translate physiological data into emotional data, in order to give meaningful feedback to the user. This project is about the possibilities that digitally processing physiological input offers, and its potential to create interesting, day-to-day products that interact with users at levels that allow them to discover unknown aspects about themselves.
