The show I went to go see was the last day, Sunday, May 2nd which was the “Short Film”(Animation). The three  short animation that I chose that were really good were, “My Grandmother: An Immigrant Woman’s Portrait” by Artist/Designer: Lily Huang ,”101 Things that Unite and Divide…” by Artist/Designer: Robyn Girard, and lastly “Blue Glass” by Artist/Designer: Shir Raitses/Shir Raitses. For all three of these work i really liked the idea and the creativity they used in their short film. For “My Grandmother: An Immigrant…” the way she used the whole theme of using a antique, old looking style photo album gave a lot of feeling of that period of time. And also what I was amazed was since I am Japanese myself, the music used was all “oldies” songs that I don’t know, prob music from the 40’s or 50’s it gave that whole feeling again, feeling like your going back in time. The detailed she used in her film i think made the film a lot meaningful than just showing a video about a grandmother that immigrated. The second short film “101 Think That Unite and Divide” i thought was a clever idea. Showing us audience how “sign”languages actually can be useful in someways and how they can communicate with others without worrying. I personally thought sign languages are so hard… and to be honest boring… but then watching this film- it made me really think it was pretty cool to know how to do sign languages. Since not “so” many people know sign languages- it actually can be like a secret code. It really changed my thought based on “sign” languages. The last work I chose, “Blue Glass” i have to say I didn’t really get the point of the story… but i did love the whole graphics, that’s why I chose this work also. The whole graphics for some reason blew me away~ like it was actually really pretty, and it fit the whole theme I guess with the “underwater ” story. I just couldn’t get my mind off of it for some reason the colors and all.

Watching these short animation films , did make me more interested in it… but. it seems so complicated and hard, i don’t think its my thing, but it did make me want to take a class maybe based on it- or at least how you can get all these graphics and all made.

here are the sites to the works i chose:

Disposable Lighter

for my everything object, i chose disposable lighters. I chose this particular object is because to be honest… i had the hardest time getting that fire on. (its a little embarrassing) but i also never liked the part where you spin?the place where you get the fire going on(im sorry i don’t know how to call that part..) I always have trouble getting the fire on- and even if i do get it on i tend to almost get burn from it. There are some disposable lighters that are easier to use and maybe safer, but i wish they can make it not hard enough, especially for something like this small. It might be safety reasons too- but i just never really liked using the disposable lighter. I think one way they can fix this disposable lighter is maybe make the part where you turn the fire on easier? like just a click or button maybe on the side or something? somewhere that is not close to the fire part. for a safety reason and easier to press. Meaning putting the button somewhere more click-able- where i said maybe it can be on the side because it has a flatter surface to it- and easier to press and hold.
