1. How do we redesign the interface to keep the user engaged/involved in a meaningful interaction?
a) Organizing information
b) dividing space amongst advertising and content
c) make content more meaningful to the user and his travel experience
d) developing a sense of community for the frequent taxi-riders
e) Utilizing existing technology of the system
Some propositions are:
1.(a) A Taxi-specific social network
This is one of first ideas that confronts the current approach to the usage of the taxi PIM (Passenger Information Monitor). The interface is designed to make the taxi-rider more comfortable, but the current design is perceived as an alien marketing interface. I imagine the use of the taxi-screen as a community building interface. The community could be that of people that take the specific taxi or their destination etc. The sense of community could be created so taxi-riders participated in reaching out to other taxi riders virtually eg.taxi-riders talking about the restaurants, theaters, markets etc in own neighborhoods. This could be facilitated through the map feature which already exists in the touch screens.
1. (b) GPS based network
The above idea of users leaving comments about certain neighborhood places for others to see could be facilitated through the GPS navigation. The user comments could be stored on the map for other people to browse. These two ideas play with the idea of asking users to create content for themselves. In a GPS based network, users will also be able to look at the comments left by users in the areas that they are traversing though in the taxi, by simply browsing them in the screen before them.
The user generated content could append to the marketing by the shareholders.
Some of the ways in which the user might leave notes are:
1. Text messaging to a server, that will upload it to the taxi interfaces
2. Blue tooth connectivity to directly engage with the screen
3. On-screen keyboard
2. A persona based interaction
This concept deals with attaching an animated character to the interface. The character would walk the user through the main sections of the interface. He could read out the headlines, give the weather report, etc. He would give the interface more personality.

The taxi-driver below had seen the PIM being used only when riders were using credit cards to pay fares higher than 20 bucks. He wasn't very helpful.
First digital prototypes that explore mainly MAP and PAY tabs. Navigation has been established though the visual hierarchy is unclear.
INFO section added, too much information can annoy the user at a glance.Default page has been added for the MAP section to promote Google Maps and inform user how the section is to be used. Navigation of entire interface has been revised.
