I am studying interactivity because I want to find out how to engage my target audience and make them experience art better & differently in order to make my business successful.

Motivation

My initial motivation for this final project is to use my knowledge on interactivity, which I learnt through out this semester, and to apply it in a form that relates to the art industry.

I always have my interest in fine art and lately been involved in work or study with different museums and gallery. Learning all this, I started to have my interest in art currating and have some thoughts in bringing it into my career in the future. Currently, I do not have the resources to actually start a physical institution, so I was thinking of making a virtual reality of a commercial art gallery.

Thesis

How do you relate the experience of somebody selecting an artwork inside a real gallery to a virtual reality?

What will be the most beneficial way using interactivity technology to approach my target audience ordering fine art from an on-line gallery?

Approach

I talked with a few people in Indonesia about getting artwork from various places in the country. One of the target places is Bali. Balinese paintings have always been a favorite shopping for foreign visitors. However there are only a few on-line galleries that sell them internationally.

Precedents

I have done some research on interactive galleries and have not seen one that involves much interactivity. There is a few on-line stores that would inspire me in terms of what can be done for my audience.

Design methods

I am thinking of focusing on just one area of Fine Art to display and sell. This will give a distinction to this gallery from others. I do not feel to design anything conventional.

Modern and contemporary art will be my main focus in designing the project.

Technology selection

Because of the limited time and one person's capacity, I will choose the most comfortable technology for me to work with, such as Flash. But, I will be willing to learn some database knowledge if it is required to optimize the project.
