Sight is a sensory enhancement device.
This
device is designed to help those walking alone at night, who
are concerned about being approached from behind unawares.
It uses a low-level sonar unit to detect obstructions within
6-8 feet, and then can use audio or vibration to alert the
user. It is designed to rest comfortably at the small of the
back, clipped to the waistline.
Its
main design considerations are to be lightweight, and waterproof.
It would use a rechargeable battery. If in audio mode, then
it can send the alert to the users' headphones via Bluetooth.
Otherwise the default are vibrations to the lower back, that
change in intensity based on how strong a signal it is receiving.
Thus the user can have a sort of Shadowvision of what is behind
them, when they become acutely aware of what the signals mean-
(i.e. the ability to distinguish between a pole and a pedestrian.)

User
Scenario» A woman chooses to go running after work.
After running though the park, she has to walk back to the
subway, wind down from her run. As she passes people on the
sidewalk, the minor vibration from the personal radar device,
she unconsciously senses where they are. When she passes one
man, she feels a stronger vibration that does not despite,
she is alarmed that someone is behind her giving her
the few extra seconds advantage to be on her guard. The extra
awareness of the device allows her to be prepared when trouble
strikes from behind, as well as being able to walk the need
to look over her shoulder.
