Week12 E.T. Glove
April 25th, 2007Inspired by the E.T. parody movieclip(I can’t find the link), which was viewed in one of the classes, I decided to make an E.T. glove.
Here are the ingredients that will make the E.T. glove:
a latex glove
a LED
a battery
some of conductive fabric cloth
conductive epoxy
It’s using soft switch mechanic to turn on the LED.
A red LED would be perfection, but I only had a blue one.
Recreating the glam E.T. moment.

Week8 Technically Challenged Social Knitting
March 15th, 2007As soon as I figured out the basic structure of the project, I got an unfortunate news from the advisor( this would be my sister-Hyang, the knitter, check out her awesome works).
Using colors in the knitting world requires an advanced skill, something called stranded color knitting.
For the start, I got a couple of yarns-black and white.

The first attempt; came out ok, much better than I thought.

Gauge Design

The color-black and white didn’t really work.
So I went for the combination of green and black.
Type design for the project

After a couple of samplings,
I decided to use green capital letters on black bg.

Design: the first attempt

It turned out that the stranded skill goes with circular building process(I don’t know the exact name of it),
so I had to come up with the second design.
Design 2

Double pointed needles and a hooked needle = $12.00

Starting the production - knitting!

It started growing after many hours of hard work.

Extremely messy inside

To prevent this thing, people do something called ‘weaving’-another new trick ;o

Week8 Social Knitting
March 15th, 2007Social Knitting is a DIY project for people, for those who want to create a social disturbance. The macbook cover design will be provided to participants. However, the design practically can be applied to anything, whatever people want to knit.
It has a MySQL table format for listing one’s friend names, limited to 14.

Week7 Midterm Idea
March 15th, 2007For my midterm, I decided to do something that will use analog output to display digital content. I came up with this idea partly because there is no way I can master handling high-tech devices within one week, but the main reason for doing this was to show my interests in presentations of technology.
I was trying to find a way to express digital input through a super analog way. For two reasons, I decided to go for knitting. The one reason is that I have been taught knitting in the class, and the other would be a fact that I have a one serious knitter sister-Hyang.
The final output would be one knitted thing displaying the social aspects of my personal life in MySQL format.
