case studies

study 1

Telescope

The objective lens of a telescope is similar to a contact lens in both shape and function

study 2

Microscope

The objective lenses of a microscope are also similar to a contact lens in both shape and function

study 3

Color of contact lenses

Modern soft contacts have a blusish tint so they're more visible in saline solution or if dropped

study 4

How to get contacts

In order to obtain contact lenses, people must have an eye exam first

study 5

Inside out

In order for a contact lens to properly stick to and remain on the cornea, it must be flipped the right way. Here is what an inside out contact looks like

study 6

The right way

A contact lens flipped the right way

study 7

In solution

A contact lens floating in saline solution in a contact lens case. Contacts can never be put in water because that can cause an infection in the eye of the wearer.

study 8

Unopened contacts

Before contact lenses are used, they are shipped in small, air-tight containers containing saline solution and the prescription on the front.

study 9

Prescription

Every box of contact lenses contains a prescription with three values

study 10

Contact care

Contact lenses require a very specific care regimen that includes saline solution and a case.

study 11

Flexibility

Modern contact lenses that bring more oxygen to the eye and retain more moisture are extremely flexible (and sometimes rip a little too easily).

study 12

Touching eye

Contact lens wearers must be able to touch their eye...like so. Some people actually have a fear of touching their eye, and therefore cannot wear contacts.

study 14

Diamter

The diameter of my contact is 1.4 cm..it is slightly larger than my cornea, and rests on the scleral portion of my eye.

study 15

Description

Contact lenses feels: wet, squishy, gooey, lightweight, and sticky

study 16

Filled with Saline

This is a contact lens filled with saline solution. Some people fill their contacts with solution before putting them in.

study 17

Process

How to put in contacts:

1. Take contact out of saline solution
2. Place contact in palm
3. Rinse with saline solution so no dirt or lint is on contact
4. Put contact on finger tip (make sure flipped right way)
5. Pull back lower and upper eyelids
6. Place contact on cornea

study 18

Comparative

Size of contacts compared to glasses...

study 19

Colored

Unlike regular contacts, colored contacts have a band of color over the iris to give the wearer the appearence of different colored eyes

study 20

Taking them out

Contacts must be pinched in order to be removed
