This past summer I decided I would keep up my physical computing skills by designing a watch. I finished the circuit, but never got around to designing what the watch would look like.
Here are some precedents:
Wooden Time Pieces
So this just sounds awesome. I’m thinking wood case, leather band. fucking sexy.
Japanese Talking Watches
My watch doesn’t talk, but I like the idea of using the rest of this plastic I have left over from a recent project. Get some colors in the mix and my watch gets FUNKIFIED!
Defakto German One-Handed Watches
I was searching for precedents and came across this. It’s unrelated to what i want the watch to look like but I really dug the quote at the beginning of the article. It made me think about what kind of watch wearer I would be. Perhaps I should approach the watch design as a reflection of my use of it.
Tokidoki Turntable Watch
Aside from this being just plain awesome, I really like square faces on watches.
Nixon - Mens
The site doesnt have individual pages for each watch so i’m just going to list them and you can check them out:
The Murf - Isn’t that a cool name? It’s also got a killer square face with half of the face covered by the brand and adjustment knob.
The Rotolog - I’m digging the idea of the face blending into the band seamlessly like this.
Newton - Serious, just serious. This one has a thin minimal face that i’m practically drooling over, but the real reason why i’m posting this up is it gave me an idea on how to lock the watch band differently. I’m thinking magnets in a locking shape.
Nixie Tube
I have to keep in mind that i built a circuit initially meant to hold nixie tubes as the display. Since the BCD chip i used can support 7 segment displays I have an option. Still this is a precedent.
01/\/atch
yet another precedent that made get working on my own watch circuit.
