Fiction

Spoon River Anthology (1915) Edgar Lee Master's Spoon River Anthology is a collection of epitaphs in free verse revealing the secret lives of the dead citizens of a fictional town in Illinois. Masters used stories from the lives of his childhood neighbors as material for many of the stories. Download the Anthology.

Invisible Cities (1972) A novel by Italo Calvino which details imaginary cities including cities of the dead. "At times all I need is a brief glimpse.. a glint of light in the fog, the dialogue of two passersby meeting in the crowd, and I think that, setting out from there, I will put together, piece by piece, the perfect city, made of fragments mixed with the rest, of instants separated by intervals, of signals one sends out, not knowing who receives them." Twin Peaks (1990) David Lynch created Twin Peaks a serial drama which aired for two years on prime time television. Lynch created a fictional town and mystery based around the geography of North Bend Washington.

New Media

World of Awe (1995) Created by Yael Kanarek, an online narrative of a traveler in search of a lost treasure. Truth be told I find this project quite confusing and un engaging partly because it so heavily text based and also because it requires such a heavy investment on the part of the reader/viewer to begin with. Ground Zero(2001) Ground Zero is a 24 hour animated movie created by John Cabral. This work is interesting to me because of its sheer immediacy and how it immerses the viewer into a simulated world over an extended period of time. Visit Site
