I attended the MFADT thesis symposium on Sunday at 7pm. There are two short videos/films that really caught my attention. The first one is ‘My Grandmother: An Immigrant Woman’s Portrait’ by Lily Huang.
This short film is about personal identity and national identity of an immigrant woman. The story was interesting but what was more captivating was the transitions, colors, pictures, and music. A Japanese woman who marries a foreigner has to move with him to this country during the war. She doesn’t want her baby to be separated by her father so she decides to go with him not knowing when she will be back to her home country. In the video, you can sense Sakiko’s sadness of not being able to return to her own country but rather staying in Taiwan – going through hardships such as having to feel ashamed of of her identity of being a defeated Japanese.
Another video that I thought was very interesting and quite humorous was the ‘101 Things that Unite and Divide..’ by Robyn Girard. This video talks about the Deaf Culture maybe informing that the hearing and the deaf are not much different at all. Each individual’s experience as a deaf person were quite interesting and very humorous. People watching this silent video would laugh or be smiling at the different stories each individual were telling. The advantages of being a deaf and the disadvantages of not being deaf were interesting and the viewers were able to agree to some of the situations.

Grocery

It syncs to the near grocery store that you would visit.  When you put something in your cart, it automatically syncs to your iphone telling you how many calories and how much money you have spent so far.

Hard Drive

Because so many people forget their hard drives or flash drives, this iphone app would automatically sync with the files from your computer so that you have your files with you at all times.

Decision Making application

Sometimes when you are indecisive, you’ll depend on this application to decide for you.  You will go through several checklists so that it’s a logical decision – not just a random one.

Closet

When you are having trouble thinking of what to wear in the morning, it shows you lots of different coordination of outfits you could wear for the day.  This application would also sync with your closet and it will know your style so that according to your style the app would come up with the outfits that fir you.
