CHINA 2010 Presentation

Last year 65 Parsons students and faculty embarked on a massively exciting 1 month trip to Beijing, Shanghai and HangZhou in the Peoples Republic of China. They collaborated with Chinese universities, local artists and international corporations. They made cool and innovative projects. Most of all they ate a lot of good food.

On Tuesday, 9/22, 6:00 PM in Kellen Auditorium, several faculty and student groups from “Parsons In China 2009″ will present their work and experiences. During and after the presentations we will introduce “PARSONS IN CHINA 2010!” So it is important to come early and stay late.

Join fellow students and faculty in HangZhou and Shanghai (and maybe other cities…) during May and June 2010 to engage in global art and design projects. Work with Chinese students, artists and international corporations. Explore the culture, eat a lot of great food and learn Chinese while earning course credit.

Open to all Parsons Art, Media and Technology students. Attend the China 2009 presentations and China 2010 information sessions about these exciting projects taking place this Tuesday, 9/22, 6:00 PM in Kellen Auditorium (66 Fifth Ave./2 West 13th St., ground floor).

Thanks!

Thanks for the memories everyone. China was an interesting experience – I’m happy  I was able to experience it with all of you. Thank You!

Urban Games in China

Nie hao pengyou,

Hope everyone is dealing with their jetleg ok. And those still traveling, hope all are safe and having fun. I’m currently in Beijing until Saturday. It’s great, but I do miss “the Dragon” a little.

I have just a few request and then I will never bother you about urban games ever again (unless you want me to that is.)

1. The games I ran during our trip are part of my personal research and it would be really helpful for me to get feedback from you on the games. Below are links to short questionairres about the various games. Obviously, you only need to complete the survey of games that you were involved in. Feel free to be honest, I can’t make better games if I don’t know what’s wrong with them. (Of course compliments are always appreciated too though :)

2. If you have contacts at any of the other various universities that we played these games with, can you please forward this email to them. Please!

3. If you have any images, videos, etc from playing the game, please post them to the blog or send them to me personally (leannemwagner@gmail.com.) In addition to your feedback, documentation of the games is also important.

That’s it. Thanks again to those who played and to everyone for such a great experience over the last month. Enjoy the rest of your summer!

zaijian!

Thanks everyone for an awesome month. So happy to have met cool people, because sometimes at Parsons I wonder where they all are! I think we’ve learned more than we realize–about travel, China, ourselves…

So Cheers! To many more meals and beers in New York : )

xoxo

this isn’t a goodbye!

If you were to ask me what was the best experience of this trip, it would be meeting so many people. You have all taught me so much and I have definetly learned a lot. This trip wouldn’t have been anything without you all. And I agree, I think someone should have a China party! Can’t wait to hang out with you all in NYC, so give me a ring! 347-813-1890

food and goodbyes

people had been asking me about this list, so i thought i would post it up here in case anyone still checks. I should say some of these are kind of personal comfort food locations and might not necessarily be loved by everyone, so I’m starring the ones that i think are particularly good and worth making a trek to

———–
my list of food to eat now that im back in new york->

chef 28 (I dont know why, but i can’t get enough chinese food…) this place is reasonable, and they deliver. comfort food.

* joe’s shanghai (the one on pell st, not the one midtown)

* taim – best falafels in the city. also excellent fries

* dumont burger – this is currently my favorite burger in the city

* minetta tavern – i havent actually been here yet, but i hear good things and i have a reservation.

* baoguette – awesome vietnamese sandwiches

uncle moe’s – (solid burritos near school)

*mexican pizza (technically this place is called great burrito.. it’s near the corner of 23rd and 6th, and looks like a hole in the wall. we call it mexican pizza in my house because we were drunk the first time we went there and they sell mexican food and pizza. don’t get the pizza. it’s not bad, but the mexican food is where it’s at. this place is open 24 hours, and has some of the best mexican food i’ve had in the city. it’s also dirt cheap. dont let the looks fool you.

benevuto – moderately priced, and excellent pasta / salads.

toasties – the one on 7th ave, NOT the one in union square. bomb chicken cutlet.

* east – moderate (good!) quality sushi that’s way cheap and comes on a conveyor belt. I love this place. there are a million places named east sushi in nyc, but this is the one you want to go to

ennju – solid japanese food on the cheap(ish) and easy

dogmatic – gourmet hotdogs. tastes great, wish they filled me up more

Tiny’s Giant Sandwich shop it’s not huge, but they make great sandwiches

* tutt cafe a bit impossible to get to, but amazing middle eastern food, and really cheap

merci market – 24 hour sandiwch place by me. its okay. comfort food.

* cafe zaiya – real good japanese lunch food. not too expensive. awesome pork buns (niku mon). get there early (before 1-2pm) otherwise all the food will be gone

pret

* greys papaya – it’s the best for a reason. if you’re new to new york and like hotdogs and havent been here… go. its cheap.

———–

anyway, that’s my list of places to hit up. im sure theres more and ill remember and maybe ill post em, but I think i got most of the important stuff.

thanks everyone for making china amazing. it blows to be so abruptly separated from you all. I know its only been 12 hours, but someone should have a china reunion party.

PHOTO TRIAD!!!

Oh how I will miss you ladies! Oh wait I will see you Tuesday. A shout out to all the DT kids. We need to hangout in NYC, so do not be strangers and come see the triad in action in the photo department. Your fearless leader will be invading our 5th floor office space soon anyway, so make your way to 66 5th. tootles for now.

Goodbyes

As TJ states goodbyes are hard and bittersweet. Laying in my bed this morning with my cute dog looking out my window and listening to what I only wanted to be the sounds of Beijing. Craving the food from the, what I thought was nasty hotel food, all while drinking my cup of coffee, not tasting the same as it once did. I come back a little smitten, a little disappointed, a little disorganized and a little glad that it is over even though I wish we were all still there. I feel strange as if I do not belong here and that our work and development as people is not done and cut short. Alas, the times of school and hard work must play on, walking back into our own lives, changed by such a wonderful experience. It was really great to meet you all and hopefully we will all stay connected through the coming years. Be safe in all you do and please keep in touch.
